Dr. Dathan Paterno serves as the clinical director of Park Ridge Psychological Services, a psychological care provider he founded in 2005. In the position, Dr. Dathan Paterno provides psychological care for children, adolescents, and adults as well as oversees a large team of counselors and therapists across four offices in the Chicago metropolitan area. At the core of his philosophy of care he assists individuals seeking alternatives to psychiatric drugs, and to this end, he regularly offers presentations on the subject.
Among his other areas of specialization at Park Ridge Psychological Services, Dr. Dathan Paterno manages the learning-disability assessment program. He defines a learning disability as a cognitive dysfunction that affects academic achievement despite an individual's ability to perform in other cognitive areas. As a result of an assessment, he aims to distinguish true learning problems from issues of emotional difficulty or motivation and, when a learning disability is identified, to provide an individual and his or her support network with the tools necessary to achieve a higher quality of life.
To better serve his patients, Dr. Paterno holds membership with the Learning Disability Association and the International Dyslexia Association. Additionally, he has authored two books, including Desperately Seeking Parents: Why Your Child Needs a Parent in Charge and How to Become One.
